Headers and wires

Headers and wires
I am installing Hooker long tubes on my 97 z. Do I need to use those over the valve cover wire looms? I thought you could use the stock setup. If you can use the stock setup, any tips or tech would help.
Thanks, Jared

I you want few troubles with your wires, go with the over the cover type or just longer wires to get around the headers. The stock length wire WILL get burned up on the headers, they just are not long enough.

Thanks for the advice. If I do go with longer wires, what do you suggest. What is the cheapest place to get the loom if i decide?
I have just finished removing all old parts and heat taped all wires. Now in go the headers tommorrow. Hopefully it goes as smooth as it has been.

If the wires are not long enough and i use those looms, do the vertical style work just as well. The reason I am concerned is I would like to get a nice pair of polished valve covers and those looms wouldnt look as good. The vertical would show the new valve cover more. There only 3.00 dollars more, but if I have to use the regular over the valve cover style oh well.

I just got done installing the long tubes. Plug wire #5 looks like it'll get burned so i just rigged it with a longer wire over the valve for now. I do want to try running a normal wire that way and see if it will get burned or not.

I just thought I'd add that you don't have to route your wires over the valve covers, you can leave them in the stock location as long as you make sure none of them are close to or touching the headers. I know there are some people on this board who have successfully left them in the stock location.

I ordered a set of magnecor wires cut longer for an LT1 with headers. I installed the wires under my edelbrock shorties. The wire that is closest in on #6. With the taylor heat boots, the boot is about 3/8 of an inch from the primary.
