Which headers for a stock Y pipe?

Are the SLP 1 3/4" shorty headers the only option for mating to a stock Y pipe?

Usually all short/mid-length headers mate to the stock y-pipe or come with their own. You could be right, most of the ones I've seen need their own y-pipe. Are you looking to keep the stock y-pipe or something?

Re: Which headers for a stock Y pipe?

I have a Random Tech stainless Y pipe with integrated high flow cats bolted up to the stock manifolds. I have the car torn down right now (tranni out, oil pan loose) and I'm getting ready to take the timing cover off too. During this process, I decided to remove the AIR system, and when I pulled the adapters off of the manifolds, the threads in the manifold got stripped out.

I was planning to do SLP shorties at some point, figuring they would be a good match with the Random Tech pipe. Now that the AIR holes are stripped on the manifolds, I'm debating doing the headers now. If not, I'll have to figure out a way to plug those holes (can cast iron be welded to??)

SLP shorties are about $650 with ceramic coating, and I was just wondering if there are any other options out there.

Thanks,
Thomas.

There are other options for short headers otherthan SLP. Hooker, BBK, Edelbrock, Pace Setter & JBA are available for dual cat y-pipe configuration.
