Headers and stock exhaust questions...

The guy I bought my '95 from had a flowmaster installed on the stock piping. I had thought about replacing it with a dynomax or hooker cat back, but realized, that for only about $150 more I could purchase a set of MAC headers. So hear are my questions.

1. Mac headers have the 1 5/8" primaries if I'm not mistaken. SLP's and a few others I believe have 1 3/4" primaries. Is there really that much of a power difference in that extra eigth of an inch diameter? Is there like a power cut off where the larger primaries become necessary? My goals for this car include eventually putting a mild cam and making ~330 rwhp.

2. Are macs the best bang for the buck header under 500 bucks? Ive read good things about the RK sports on the board, as well as the Hookers. I want good plug access, and I must pass emissions. Ceramic coating isnt that important to me... should it be?

3. Seeing that LS1s make +300rwhp on the stock 2.75 inch exhaust, would i be wasting money to buy these headers and place them on the stock exhaust? I would eventually swap the exhaust to a full 3 inch system, but the headers are just more appealing to me right now.

Thanks.

For what you are wanting, the Mac's will be just fine. As for the coating, my brother has Mac's on his Mustang that are not ceramic coated. They've been on there for about 4 years now and dont look bad at all.
