Headers with no EGR???

Do I have to buy the block off plates? I completely spaced out on the fact that I need to somehow block off the EGR on the back of the intake. Can I run it open down by the header till the plate comes in? Or just build my own out of aluminum or some ****. Let me know. Thanks

You can buy headers that dont have the tube for egr but if you deleting it from emmissions legal headers then yes you have to buy block off plates.

To temporarily close off the EGR system at the back of the manifold, until you can buy or make a block-off plate, simply take a beer can (empty of course ) and cut a small diamond shaped piece the size of the opening/studs on the back of the intake manifold, and sandwich the plate between the flange of the corrugated EGR riser tube and the intake manifold. No need to remove the EGR valve, but if you do, you need a block-off plate for that too.

Yeah I' just mean the one at the back of the intake. I assume that corrugated hose runs down to the passenger side manifold? It's all cluster f$cked in there but I'm sure that's where it runs. This is waht confuses me. The kit from UMI comes with 3 plates. I know the on on the manifold and one on the back of the intake but where's the 3rd one go? I bought headers with no emissions so I just want to make sure everything is good to go.

The corrugated tube connects to the #8 primary. With stock manifolds, or with "emisisons" headers, you need plate #1 to block the hole on #8 primary. Plate #2 blocks the hole where the corrugated tube connects to the back of the intake manifold. Plate #3 covers the hole where you remove the EGR valve.

Re: Headers with no EGR???

Heres a related question. Do i have to remove the EGR valve or can i just block the hole off the #8 header primary, then where it goes into the back of the intake manifold, disable egr and that valve should be closed, shouldn't it? Or is it best to just take off the valve and block that off too?

You just need to block off the flow of exhaust by removing and blocking the corrugated tube at the back of the intake and on the #8 tube.

You can leave the EGR valve there. It is normally closed, and requires vacuum to open it. You will need to pull the vacuum line off and cap it at the source. The only possible problem you could have by leaving the EGR valve in place would be for the pintle seal on the EGR valve to leak, and the pintle just happening to be stuck open - not very likely to happen.

We need to tell Shoebox to make his pictures a bit smaller......
