headers keep burning plug wires
headers keep burning plug wires
How do I stop the headeres from burnging the plug wires. Is there a special wire that wont burn through? I have gone through 3 sets on cylinder 6 and 8 today. I used a space age boot protector made by taylor, the wire burned inside the sleeve, not burning the sleeve. Please HELP!!
Go to your local parts store and see if they carry Standard Ignition parts. They make a very bad a$$ heat sleeve. I believe in Michigan you guys have Autovalue(Autowares) stores, correct? I know that they can get them. The part number is SPP33 or something along the lines of that. I had a problem with my wires burning until I got these. They come in packs of 2 for like $6.
Dont make the same mistake I did and buy the Taylor heat sleeves. They are not even close to worth $50. I got ripped off. And they dont do too much either. They would be OK on OVC wires, but not on stock routed wires with headers. Just get the OVC wires and you'll be fine.

I have said this before but its still true.
Routing is the key.
I have Jet Hot coated Hooker LTs, I have MSD superconductor wires, I do not have OVC routing.
2500 miles and not one burnt wire.
Routing is the key.
OVC works for alot of guys and thats cool but its not required.
Zip ties are your friend. Use em.

dude there's no getting around the heat that header's put out... if you don't have over the valve cover wires then your gonna run into probs... i went thru tooo many wires before i realized this
yea you can route them as good as you want, but the one that i could NEVER route good enough was that dayum #6
I HATE THAT ONE
get yourself some MSD wires, #32129 and never worry about it again

Like rev said....alot has to do with routing. I use the stock routing on the driverside and I route the wires between the block and acc braket on the passenger side(use wire loom sleeves to keep them from chaffing). #6 is really easy if you go behind the dipstick tube and then come between the block and dipstick tube from the back....the tube will secure it from the header....bare in mind that I am using the fire sleeves so #6 lays in the sleeve between the block and tube nicely. A few stratigic zipties and all is good... like I said before...2 years no burnt wires.
If you route them correctly, you won't need fire sleeves. The shortest route might not be the best.
Invest in a good OTVC kit, and your problems will be solved. I have MACs and OTVC wires, not one fire sleeve, and haven't even come close to burning a wire. Well worth the hundred bucks. You should have seen my old Accell 900 wires when I pulled them out. They were marred in 4 spots.
