Headers done!! - 200 bucks for O2 extentions!?

I finaly finshed up my Jet-Hot LT install.. except for the custom Y-Pipe.. so open header right now (omg the drone!!)

Anyway... I'm going to need 4 O2 sensor extentions, and one new O2 sensor (threads stripped while removing it)

I'm getting quoted 100 bucks for a pair of O2 extentions.. WTF??

I know thunderracing has them for 25 bucks (50 for two) but thats american and plus shipping that will be well over 100.. so thats out of the question.

omg the extentions and one new sensor is going to cost me more than what I paid for TWO high flow cats!

My custom y-pipe will be 250ish

Could anyone suggest anything that might keep cost down? If not.. well I'll just suck it up

On a good note... MAN do those open headers sound NICE! But holy crap.. driving home was intense! At idle the header were actually more QUIET than I expected (I've heard a 355 open header before) but once you blip the throttle, omg! All hell breaks loose! lol

Thanks guys

You do realize you can just get some same gauge wire, solder them onto the existing O2 harness, put some heat shrink on it, and call it a day for $5 right? New O2 should cost about $48 at O'reilley's for a AC delco brand, at least it is here. Don't pay $ for no retarded extensions. It takes 5 minutes to solder the original harnesses and it will still look professional and "Not hacked" :P.

I agree, do it yourself. Dont waste your money on stupid extentions. Just make sure you either solder it or crimp it very well.

Solder?

I was told that they will not solder due to their material. My shop teacher tried to solder some O2 wires before.. and he said it just ran all off.

I was thinking about crimping them.. but where can I get the same type of wire? Junkyard?

I'm going to look into this a little more

Have you guys, in fact, soldered your own O2 wires? If thats the case I'd much rather do that. But from what my shop teacher said about how they wouldn't solder.. I figured that was out of the question.

I used these plastic wire connectors with a screw on collar on each end. They are white and about 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inches long. Wrapped them with electrical tape and used split corrugated tubing to protect them. No problems.

I extended the O2 wires on my 97 myself. The wires solder just fine. Make sure you extend the wires BEFORE the connector.

Wahahahaha, tell your shop teacher he is a moron. A wire is a wire. Believe O2 Sensors use regular 14 or 16 gauge wire. Slap him upside the head for me. What he may be referring to is the heat they may be exposed to, make sure you insulate the wires very good. You can buy a variety of gauges of wire from autozone. Wire is wire, you just need to match the thickness (AKA gauge), the bigger the gauge number the thinner the wire. If anything go to radio shack, they sell wire too, just dont get speaker wire lol .

Some people have good luck extended their wires. I on the other hand did not. It was all done correctly, but it still caused problems. Do what you have to, but I dont recommend it.

4 extensions?

What do you need four extensions for if you're installing long tubes? Just pick up some O2 simms and eliminate the rear sensors.

Also, you should NOT crimp the wires. Solder and shrink-wrap is good, but extensions are better. Crimping the wires can alter the resistance of the sensor and cause inaccurately read O2 readings.

Thanks guys.. I have already made my own extentions. But I didn't just crimp wire in. I went to the junk yard, and found the proper 4 wire connectors (both square and flat, male and female) and a good amount of wire. Then after no luck uncrimping the pins from the junk yard connectors, I made a trip to a Cadi dealer where my friend hooked me up with new pins and shrink wrap. He said the pins were 8 bucks a peice (how true that is I don't know, but it would explain the $50 price tag on extendors ) Anyway.. he gave them to me for free I cut the wires to how long I wanted, and crimped them into the pins and bam, I had my very own profensonal looking extentions

Total cost: about 15 Canadian dollars Not bad.. saved over $200

When I bought extentions through Thunder, I thought I was only buying one, but they sent me two. Don't know if it was an accident or not. I only payed $25, also.
