Well, my little brother had a 96 Z auto with K&N FIPK and a cutout. He dynoed 255rwhp and like 289rwtq. After nothing more than Hooker Longtubes, offroad ypipe, pcmforless tune and plugs/wires he put down 282rwhp and 321rwtq. That is 27rwhp and 32rwtq. And both of these were done on the same dyno.

On my bone stock 97 6spd 30th SS, I put down 271rwhp and 292rwtq. After the very same mods above (hooker longtubes, offroad ypipe, edwright tune and plugs wires) I put down 292 and 328rwtq. So I picked up 21rwhp and 36rwtq. Again, on the same dyno.

LT's should give you the most peak HP. Myself, I have the MAC midlengths and dynoed SAE 285 rwhp/318 rwtq, through a cat and catback. Without the cat, I should have been around 290/323. I was also running 12 a/f above 3500 rpm so that hurt my numbers. I guess what I'm saying is that you can get great performance from LT's and Mids. You can see my dyno below. Headers and Y-pipe, coated inside and out from Jet-Hot, $560 to your door.

Oh yeah, check out my low RPM TQ.

I gained 28 rwtq and 30 rwhp from the headers/exhaust.

www.jet-hot.com is the company that coats the headers with the very nice jet-hot coating. Very similar to ceramic. Not sure which is better, but I think that the jet-hot and the ceramic coatings are vertually the same in performance.

Here is the direct link to the camaro headers that they offer. The part number you are looking for is TF94957. They are the MAC '94-'95 style headers.

http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/Precoats/Camaro.htm

You will also need an S-pipe to connect the current catback to the new headers. That can be found at www.thunderracing.com.
part number 99-S $65

The nice thing about these headers is that you can bolt in a cat or straight pipe, whichever you prefer.

Your system would go like this:
Headers=>Y-pipe=>cat or straight pipe=>S-pipe=>TOTL

Or you could go with Long Tubes.

Yes, they will fit. If you notice, I'm a '97 and I have them. That's why you need the S-pipe. I didn't need the S-pipe, but that's because I bought a '94-'95 style cat-back.
