Header/Wire Combo

Im sure this topic has been out there many times but trying to search through all the related topics that come up in the search is way to tedious.

Im lookin for peoples header and wire setups they have done either with shorties or longtubes. Im lookin at either Hooker shorties with MSD wires or Jet Hot or Hooker longtubes with the MSDs. Has anyone done similar setups or do yall have better header/wire combos. Also, ive heard some people say they have done longtube installs without jackin the motor up, has anyone done this? Thanks for the info.

Re: Header/Wire Combo

I am running Pacesetter LT's and running factory wire in the factory locations. I just pulled them out of the way and zip tied them to the motor mounts. Ran for two months without a burnt wire amazingly until I pulled heads and cam.

Re: Header/Wire Combo

id get the jet hot LTs or pacessetters (i reccomend jet hot even tho they cost slightly more IMHO)
jacking up the motor is not a must with either headers , it all depends on how old , how many miles and how good the motor mounts are

IMO id get some over the valve cover wires, somthing like taylor(some ppl have problems others dont) and id get some heat sheilding for teh wire boots that get close to the headers

that would be my settup when i get my headers installed

Re: Header/Wire Combo

If you get headers of any kind I would recommend getting some boot protectors. I am on my third set of wires because the boots kept cooking and arching to the base of the plug. They weren't touching, just the heat alone was cooking them. I now have the Accel 9000 high temp wires with Taylor boot protectors. Don't know how long they are going to last but I am hoping it is longer than the 3-4 months I was getting before.

Re: Header/Wire Combo

I spent $40 at summit and bought 6 feet of MSD silicone/fiberglass heat sleeving. Used about 3 feet of it to selectively protect the wires and boots. I don't see how you can avoid burning wires with a 4th gen with headers. I'd consider the heat sleeve mandatory. Good luck
