Header Size??

Is 1 5/8 the standard size for 97 LT1? or is there a better size?

Re: Header Size??

Are you looking for Long-Tubes or shorty headers? LT's usally are 1 3/4" headers. Shortys you can get both. I'd HIGHLY recomend LT's over anything else though.

I have a 97 Z28 with the dual cats though. How do I go with LT's without setting off engine codes and crap? I have a chance to get some BBK Ceramic Coated Shorties for around $250. Go with them or find LT's?

BBK's suck! Do a search on this site, find all the bad feedback. Fitment, performance, clearance, etc...

LT's are the best. Period. You plan on lowering the vehicle? If you do, or your car is lowered, like mine, you may want to invest in some 94-95 style mid-lengths like I did. AS&M makes a 1 3/4" Mid length header. Mac makes a 1 5/8" mid length header. I think JBA's are 1 3/4" mid's too.

Remember, there are guys in the tens with 1 5/8" mid's...

If you plan on lowering the car, or it is, then LT's should be out of the question. You will destroy them and rip them off the heads probably. Unless roads are perfect where you live.

Re: Header Size??

You can either go with LTs or you can't, depending on your emission's regs.

Lt will give you more low end and a few more ponies.

I believe most of the shorties and so-called mid lengths are 1 5/8s which would be fine with a good Y pipe, but you would still be moving the cats which might be a no no.

AS&M, I believe makes a 1 3/4 and so does SLP. I believe the AS&Ms are steel and the SLPs are stainless. Both should be coated anyway.

I run SLP shorties on my dual-cat and they seem to run fine. Probably don't provide more than 5-10 hp over stock but they are certainly superior to stock.

SLP dual-cats look like a pretzel but the cat configuration pretty much dictates a special shape and design.

You are likely to find used SLPs faster and cheaper than AS&Ms. If you can find the SLPs and they are uncoated (cheaper) you can have them coated for around $100.00. JMHO

Re: Header Size??

Yeah I dont want to lower it at all. But I also dont think Az would allow me to move or delete them. So I guess finding a decent set of SLP's would be nice. I have a friend who has AZS&M on his 95 Impala SS and the whole top of his motor is covered cause of how they spaghetti up top.
