Header Sealing

My friend races super comp and super stock cars and I noticed that they seal the headers with some type of gasket sealant (the orange stuff not sure what type) and use no type of actual gasket. I was wondering if that would be ok to use on our types of cars too, or is there some reason everyone uses gaskets? Thanks Paul

So, does anyone think that this would be suitable for a daily driver, or would it go bad or something. Thanks Paul

I'd feel kinda weird putting it on the cylinder heads just incase it happens to melt off it would cause a big mess. I'd say just get a nice set of gaskets, spend the little extra good ones cost.

I noticed that the ultra copper tends to degrade the closer it is to the exhaust ports. I used it at all the exhaust connections and it had degraded slightly at the collectors, but was fine down by the cat. I used some on my header gasket, and the ultracopper that was touching the head or the header gasket was fine, but any that stuck out into the exhaust got burned away.

I think you could use it, but you would need very good surfaces to start with, and it would probably only work for a little while. Probably why those guys use it, since they are taking off the headers a lot. Buying gaskets all the time would get $$$.
