Header Problem!!!

ok i installed Long tube pacesetter headers today on my 96 trans am, and i used mr gasket copper gasket, and i cranked it up without my o2's plugged up and first all , i have exhaust leaks around the headers and my bolts are tight, so i guessing its the gaskets? and whenever the cars running i have a ticking noise coming from the driver side header, and the more i give it gas the faster the ticking gets.... what is causing this? anyone have an idea? i have ngktr55 in it, but havent changed the plug wires , i am waiting on them to get here....so anyone have an idea?

I used those copper gaskets and they leaked around the bottoms of the ports of my SLP headers because they were shaped wrong for the header to exhaust port seal that was needed - maybe you have the same problem.

I thought I posted a reply to this? Anyway... are you sure you cleaned the gasket surface on the head? There was a bit of baked on old gasket when I did mine and it leaked like crazy.

The ports are "D" shaped and the header flangess are "O" shaped and the gaskets are "D" shaped more or less, and so the header flange opening crossed over the raised bead on the gasket and created the leak in my application, anyway. You can see it on the bottom where it's all black.

Try these from Summit. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...A3BERL&FROM=MG

Stay away from Percy dead soft aluminum. Not the answer either.

I've heard a number of folks complain about those gaskets.

Felpro 1470.

I've been completely satisfied with their header gaskets.

I'm guessing you are referring to the Felpro 1406s. I am using the Felpro 1406s, although there are several members using the 1470s as well.

I've read very few complaints regarding the Percy's Dead Soft Aluminum gaskets. After much research, they are the gaskets I chose.
