Asking what I needed to install my headers in autozone yielded the same confusion and indignance as usual so I did a search, and heres what I came up with...

1.Fel-pro gasket set #1406

2.ARP 3/8'' header bolt set from summit(1'' long bolts)part # apr-400-1101

3. 2 collector gaskets from autozone

4. PB Blaster

BTW, I am buying these used(they are edelbrock shorties)and I want to use all new gaskets and bolts. One of the y-pipe to header gaskets are missing, and I figure I'll replace both of them. I guess these are called collector gaskets???

Am I missing anything?

 

Antiseize for the header bolts and plugs.

You might want Ultracopper RTV to help seal gasket areas.

You might need an O2 extension, or new O2's, but wait until you install the new headers to find that out.

Ah yes...antiseize is good-especially b/c I'm not using locking bolts.

The seller has informed me that there is a doughnut-type gasket that is missing at the y-pipe to header connection. Looking at the Edelbrock website, I see that two of these came with the headers/y-pipe. this donut does not look like the collector gaskets I have seen. A gasket set including these from edelbrock is $14.99 on their website(part # E6923). Anybody know if these "donuts" are available singly anywhere?

ANTI-SEIZE.......sounds like you're thinking of threadlock on the bolts. THreadlock is going to do nothing at those temperatures....just properly tighten them down once in a while; I've never had one come loose. If he meant threadlock, I don't think he would say to put that on your plugs

Thread lock is a no-no on header bolts.

Autozone had the donuts that you are referring to, but I don't know the part number. Not a lot of stores have them though, so you might have to search around.

I was thinking of loctite for some reason, don't know why...short circuit in my brain, I guess! Glad you caught that

 

You won't need extensions for the Eddies. Once the headers are on, I would suggest going back and torque the bolts down again to make sure none have backed out. I check mine frequently on the turbo car.

You should have no problem doing them in a day. Just be patient and don't overtighten the header bolts or plugs.

 

Do yourself a favor and put new motor mounts in while you are doing the install, you will need to take the headers back off to install them later.

 

Motor mounts, eh? I'll check 'em out. What indicates a motor mount in need of replacement?

 

How many miles do you have on the car? Anything over 75K and I would change the mounts while you're under there.

 

90k. Turns out I'll be able to have a couple days to do this stuff, so I'll do that if its not too expensive or involved...
