Header install

I've taken the Y-pipe off and now I'm taking the driver's side manifold off. I have all the bolts off but I cant take the manifold down. I need instructions on how to get the manifold out.

thanks

It's easier to remove the manifolds if you've got another person to help. One person to work from the bottom and one to work from the top. What you want to do is angle the manifold and slide it down.

Do I need to take the spark plugs off? They keep getting in my way to do it. All I have off it the y-pipe and the manifold bolts. Anything that needs to be off? Oh and the AIR hook-ups I believe they are called.

both the passenger and drivers side came out the top for me. after you get the AIR fittings off and EGR crap they should just come out with some persuasion. I didn't have any of the spark plugs removed when I removed mine.

The bottom of the manifold where it hooks to the y-pipe is getting caught on the steering bars.

Steering shaft? Drivers side? I have a dual cat car but I had to take out the steering shaft to get the drivers side out the top.

Edit: If so two bolts and the shaft comes out with a little persuading(SP).

not hard. it takes an 11mm socket to remove the bolt at both ends of the shaft. then, slide it up toward the steering column and off the steering gear. then pull it down off the steering column. you will p rolly need to remove it when you install the headers anyways. also, you have to take off the egr tube from the back of the intake as stated previously. either one or two 10mm nuts at the back of the intake on the pass side. and, nows def. the time to change the sp. plugs. its much easier to gett the headers on w/o plugs in there.

The EGR tube is the shiny metal tube that runs from the passenger side manifold up to the back of the intake manifold.

You will also need to remove the oil dipstick to remove the pasenger side manifold and install the header.

How do you take the oil dipstick out. I heard about that. Will I need to drain my oil?

you have the passenger side out, but not the driver's? You sir, are *** backwards Atleast you have the hard one done already. The driver's side should come out with little to no effort. Pretty much lift. I can't imagine why you are having a problem. I did an entire header install on my own due to my friends' incompetencies with cars
