I bought a set of these '96-97 Pacesetter shorty headers off of ebay pretty cheap [new], and I was looking at them pretty close last night and noticed that the mating surfaces are a little uneven. How flat are these things supposed to be? I really don't want any exhaust leaks after I install them. What is the tolerance?

I thought about dragging them over some emery paper on a flat surface or something like that--ideas for removing the high spots?

The primary tubes & the collector flanges are not exactly flat.

Take them to a machine shop and have them put them on the planar. You could sand them but it will take you forever and you'll be chasing header leaks till your fingers wanna fall off.

Shouldn't be much at all being that they;re off of the car.

 

What blue89bird said, most machine shops have large beltsanders that would make short work out of the flanges and tubes.

 

How did those Headers turn out? I ordered some Pacesetters also and I'm wondering if they are worth the small amont of money they cost?

 

I have them on my car and I like them. Drop me an e-mail before you do the install and I'll give you some tips that will help you out.

 

I had them on my car for about 4 yrs. I liked them alot. I just took them off for Hooker LT's this past weekend. They are definaltey worth the money. I am sure they are good as any other shorty.

I know the dealer says not to let a person drive a Z28 if they are only gonna buy a V-6 but, what was the diffrence in sound and power from the pacesetters and the Hooker LTS? Was there a diffrence? I know there was but what kind?

 

I cant really answer your questions yet. I still have to take it to the muffler shop and get my new exhaust piping installed and mated to the mufflex y-pipe, put in some more heat reflective tape on the heater box and a few other odds and ends. Right now it has a open y-pipe and there's a 35MPH speedlimit on post so I couldnt get into it.

But the pace setters were a hell of alot easier to get in!
