Header Gaskets?????

I put copper gaskets on just the drivers side today and they leak. I have hooker LTs and am pretty mechanically inclined but i am kind of stumped. Do they have to get hot and then be retightened? It was only like 30 degrees today. The car only ran for maybe a minute after i did it and they were still leaking when i shut it off. I have the bolts tight but i did it with a stubby wrench so maybe not tight enough?????? Any ideas or should i put ultra seals back on?

My coppers leaked too, but just a little. I went with Mr. Gasket Ultraseals from Autozone, and they work great. They are very similar to the popular Felpro's.

Just save time and switch to Felpro or Mr. Gasket. I blew 4 sets of Hookers before I came to my senses. Got Felpro 1406 put on today and it is in great shape! Just wish I could say the same for the rest of the car.....SES....

Re: Header Gaskets?????

Would the stock GM gaskets work on your headers? I have read here (at least for Mac headers), that the stock GM steel gaskets work. Thats what i have used and as far as i know, no problems--Transamdude95, if your SES light might be related to your headers, check your EGR/header hookup, i had a SES light for almost a year after install and by dumb luck playing around i put a ugly wad of copper rtv sealant around where the egr tube and header hookup, light went out later. I put on my copper gaskets and i had a leak too. I checked it out and it was my slip fit primary. It's not a big leak and can barely be heard, but i like knowing that a copper gasket will NEVER blow apart like a paper one. Those bolts were a PITA.
