are you supposed to apply any kind of gasket adhesive to header gaskets or just bolt em' in right out the package?

Re: header gasket question

I just bolt them right in out of the package. .Some guys like to put some RTV around the ports for added seal, but i dont think its nessasary..

Re: header gasket question

I agree with the previous post. I would just put em in dry. That RTV is going to get so hot it will probably dry and crack anyhow. Plus, the RTV will probably make a mess and not look as nice. Everyone I know has always put the header gasket on without any sealent.

Re: header gasket question

I usually put my gaskets on dry. Some people will put some sealant around the ports as already noted or they will spray the gasket with a copper adhesive spray.

Re: header gasket question

If you use RTV, make sure you use the Copper RTV, and not the blue, black, or any other kind.

Re: header gasket question

I tend to use the rtv since i had a leak once and had to redo it, but make sure it's copper.

Re: header gasket question

you can use some copper RTV, like stated a million times above, but like most others i just put them in with no sealant, just the plain gaskets. works fine.
