Header gasket

Anyone have any experience with the gaskets that come with the pacesetter longtubes? They seem better than any gasket you can get at an auto parts store. I usually use the percys seal 4 good, but if these are good I wont even bother. Do they seal good by themselves? No rtv.

Re: Header gasket

I got a set w/ my headers and passed them along to my sons friend. They lasted a couple of months and one side failed. Just my 2 cents..

Re: Header gasket

typically the gaskets that come with "headers" are crap (paper).

FWIW I have always used FelPro with no issues on various SBC or SBF motors/headers

Re: Header gasket

Pretty sure they are pretty cheap. I still have mine somewhere but opted for Felpro gaskets.

Re: Header gasket

What gaskets is everyone running? I've checked out the copper but want everyone else's opinions.

Re: Header gasket

I've had 2 sets of headers on my car over a period of 16 years. Each set was installed with a new set of the Mr. Gasket Copperseals. They never leaked. Use good bolts. Current set has ARP stainless. Earlier set had Stage 8 locking bolts, but I don't think they make them any moren

Re: Header gasket

Ive ran the earls gaskets with no leaks but they tear easy if you dont keep headers in place on install(as they are some soft material inseterted into metal cutout and can tear at bolt holes if not steady getting bolts started). Ive read of several others using them with great success as well as the percy's. This time I'm trying the percy's mostly because they were a little cheaper. I also agree with using a good bolt and the longer ones. I am using the stainless arp with 5/16 head and after tightening them after a couple heat cycles and then one more check after a few more never a problem.

Re: Header gasket

I don't recall any "small round things" in the set I installed more than 10 years ago. Looking at the link, you can download the instructions, and they reference "hi-collar lock washers".... so maybe that's what they are. There are 12 of them, and you will need 12 bolts to install each header.

Re: Header gasket

I've ran the Felpro 1406 and never had an issue for the last 8 years. Most important thing is the tightening between heat cycles.

Re: Header gasket

Running Percy's aluminum header gaskets("Seal-4-good" I think...).. No leaks at all. Soft aluminum that will conform to the head and header surface.

Also remember to tighten the header flange middle first, then working out to the edges. Not doing so can cause leaks if the flange is slightly warped(mine were).

I also used 1" ARP stainless header bolts(I think 1" was the length). The 12 point small head was a must on my Kooks headers. Not to mention the extra length of the bolts was good as not to risk stripping out a bolt hole.
