Header and exhaust Q?
Header and exhaust Q?
Hey guys! Just bought a 94 z28 and im wondering if its possible to put a pair of headers in there, seeing as how its so cluttered already. (Have to pull the motor?) If so, what kind of horsepower increase am I looking to achieve if I swap the stock exhaust to flowmaster or such as that?
Re: Header and exhaust Q?
its quite possible to put headers on our cars and I highly recommend that and exhaust. You shouldn't have to pull the engine to do it. Power increases vary but it is definatly worth it IMO
Re: Header and exhaust Q?
no problem. I have a set of Hooker mid lengths that were not to difficult to install and I was pleased with the result. You could also go the Long Tube route but they take more work and customization to get in. Whatever route you choose good luck!
Re: Header and exhaust Q?
Headers are definetly a good mod to our cars, I love mine. I personally went with Pacesetter Long Tubes and a Pacesetter Off-Road Y-Pipe. Juat so you know the kind of project you're looking at, it wasn't hard with the longtubes. Had to remove alternator, oil filter, starter, bellhousing shield, dipstick and a few other things such as AIR pump and lines and EGR but those were a personal choice since I went with non emissions headers. As far as "custom" work all I had to do was remove the passenger side heat shield, make a small heat shield for some wires on the passenger side, install O2 sensor extensions, bend the steering linkage a little ******ds, and wrap the fuel and brake lines with heat resistant tape. Wasn't a hard job, just time consuming, but definetly worth it. Good luck with whatever setup you choose.

Along with a cold air intake and a good catback, headers are also one of the first mods you should look into. Whether you go with shortys, mid-lengths, or long tubes, it is a matter of your preference as well as emissions regulations in whatever state you are in. Do some searches, there are alot of threads about this topic, research really well, and then make your choice.
