Header Choice for 383 Stroker

Hello everyone, I need a little help on making a decision for my 97' TA's exhaust headers. I live in Montana so there are no emissions requirements at all. I have a 383 stroker with an LT4 Hot Cam. The motor was primarily built by the previous owner so my knowledge of the bottom end is limited. Cam specs are .050 in. 218/228, Lift .492/.492. Currently I am leaning towards the Speed Engineering long tube headers. They are very affordable and would require the least modification to fit them to the Speed Engineering true dual exhaust. The car is strictly driven around town and on the highway. Any knowledge or input about other headers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Header Choice for 383 Stroker

I have a set of Kooks headers and Speed Engineering duals. I needed to extend the driver side by about 3" and took roughly an 1" off the passenger side. I am still in the break in process on my car, but like others, had a number of exhaust leaks with the provided clamps. I have gone back over the bands and tightened every thing up and will report back on how leaky it is. I will likely v-band the headers, behind the x-pipe, and over the axel, then weld the remaining slip joints.

For the headers, I remember seeing they were very close to Kooks. The overall shape and fitment is good. If they are close, you will need to remove your oil cooler (if you have one), and run a shorter filter.

Gotcha, that's good information on the modifications needed to fit long tubes to the Speed Engineering true dual setup. Unfortunately, I'm a little too poor for a set of Kooks headers at the moment thanks to school lol. They're definitely top of the line so the price is understandable.

I was able to get mine on a deal from another member with Jethot coating unused. I would not have spent the $1,200 Kooks wanted if I was shopping. If you can get them coated, I recommend it.

That's awesome, I'll keep the coating in mind. I live in a pretty small town, but I'll check around a bit when I get some.

Does anyone else have an opinion or information about what brand/type of header I may want to run? I'm open to ideas
