Header AIR tube leak ?
Header AIR tube leak ?
After having my AS&M headers installed by a shop I noticed that there is a sligh ticking sound when I get on the gas. When I push the peadal and the engine revs then there is this kinda tickish sound. It's not very noticible when I get on the gas very slowly.
I had 2 shops look at it and everyone said that its not an exhaust leak, so I'm actually ruling this out. The way I hear it is that the sound comes from that location here... the passenger AIR fitting tube http://shbox.com/1/diverters.jpg ... I tried to tighten the screw but it seemed tight already. One very weird thing I noticed though is that the tube itself has some play where it goes into the screw (in the upper left location of the picture)....while the tube on the driverside sits very tight and good. Could the "ticking" problem on the passenger side be related to this "loose" air tube ???
Thanks for your help
Alex

Re: Header AIR tube leak ?
The nut is supposed to hold the flared end of the tube against the bottom of the hole to make the seal. If the tube is loose in the nut, it isn't seated all the way. When you have "coated" headers, it isn't unusual for the coating to get in the threads and make it harder to seat the nut in the hole. You might have to take the nut out, and "chase" the threads so it will fit in all the way to the bottom. I actually have that step in my online header install procedure, because its a lot easier to do it before you install the headers.
A leak at that point can be a problem... at high flow velocity the exhaust gas can actuallly pull (educt) air into the opening and mess up your O2 readings.
