If you do it yourself, not much. Probably $200 or so for a head set, $10 or so for a six pack, and a full day in the garage - two if you pace yourself.

Shop would likely charge well over $500 - $300 for parts and $300-$500 for labor.

I would get some offers from a few shops, but I can see it costing at least 800 bucks.

Are you really sure you popped the headgasket? If you close to stock i don't think you could pop the stock one if you tried...

Got oil in coolant?
Is your oil turning into mud or have coolant in it?

Make sure you get the heads checked and surfaced if needed.

I was quoted $2000 from two places when I was blowin a little white smoke out the back.

I changed the oil to a heavier weight and no more white smoke.

I also rag on it daily, and still no problems.

Once it blows, or if it blows, I will definitely be replacing it myself and learning my engine some

Cooling system pressure test

Most auto parts stores loan them out and may even tell you how to do it I would do this or the leakdown before ripping anything apart

As for the reply about popping a stock head gasket,,, at 50K mine went,,, I caught it right away and I am at 110K (miles US car) and no issues, runs great.

As far as cost for a simple repair if no other damage has been caused my estimate is as follows:

milled heads - $150

gaskets - $60

fluids (oil/coolant/filters) - $60 (one oil change to clean motor <20 miles) next oil change for actual use (I used dino for cleaning and synthetic for actual use)

tube of sealant for head bolts - $5

RTV for intake seal - $5

other gaskets $20

new head bolts?? - $30??

purchase of a tool (always end up buying a tool) $40
10% contingency

Grand total for a do it yourselfer safe estimate should actually be less

approx $400

just my $0.02

quick fix...

i didn't really notice any oil in the coolant or vica versa, but for a quick solution my dad put something in it he picked up one day at autozone, it stopped the white smoke, so when i get in my possession, i'm going to try the leakdown test, just to see....and about the 6 pack....well with my temper and the Navy always breathing down my back, i'm gonna need a case and end up messing up more than i fix....lol
