Porting stock heads

I'm looking for a place where I could get some stock heads ported. Not for very expensive, just some cheap stock head porting that could give me a good 15-30 horses...

Anyone know of any good places to look for good LT1 head porting? If possible, to be quick shipping here...got a motor on the stand that needs to go back into a daily asap

Go big or go home my friend, sooner or later you will take the heads off again to get a better P&P so you might aswell do it all now.

Problem is I don't have the money right now. I have to rubuild the motor and a few parts inside, and a bit of the drivetrain... one example being the clutch and flywheel.

The car itself needs a bit of cosmetic work and stuff, and I have the 1.6 rollers with the springs, I just want to freshen up the heads a bit so I can get some 15-30 hp gains while it's already out. I'm only looking to spend 300-500 so I thought i'd ask first before I did anything.

I understand what you mean though, I regret not having another grand to spend at the moment, but as it is now, it's barely getting rebuilt X_X

Llyod does a budget head for 750 I think. Thats going to beat anyone local you find for the money. Well maybe not, but most likely.

Thats what I was thinking. Lloyd offers the budget service as well as his other packages. If you are going to spend the money, I would spend it right and go with someone who has extensive experience with the LT1 castings.

If you figure that a competition valve job and surfacing of the heads usually runs $250-300 then that doesn't leave you a lot for port work. If you really want to stay cheap but get the bank for your buck, firgure you NEED to surface your heads while they are off for about $50-60 a pair and have about $400 worth of porting done. Lap the valves yourself and just have the shop double check them to make sure there are no probs.

The LT1 heads valve jobs are generally in pretty decent shape up to 150k miles or so. You might need to have the valves ground but lapping them in will give you a good indicator of whats up.

Thanks Revolutionary for the advice. Going with a higher compression and getting the heads surfaced definitely seems to be a smart and cost effective way of bumping the horses a bit.

Don't know what Lapping the heads in, but I'll see if I can do a bit of digging, and ask a few people who really know their stuff about what it is and how to go about doing it, or getting it done somewhere.

And thanks to slomarao and 2000gtp for the Lloyd Elliot heads idea...I gotta check into that.
