head/engine questions...

I am going to be getting the LE3 heads/cam setup for my LT1.
I was going to be building up a fully forged 383. But i have a few questions...

The LE3 setup....will it work with my stock bottom end until i have time to actually break in a new engine?

What is the recommended break-in time for a new engine?

And since i am going to be pulling the engine anyway to install the cam, should i upgrade motor mounts? or just use the stock ones? who offers some good motor mounts? and what are some recommendations as to what i should go with. I am looking at about 400+ rwhp and even more in TQ. thanks!

Re: head/engine questions...

The break in time on a roller cammed motor is as long as it takes to warm up. Then you have to beat on it to seat the rings, being easy on it is a sure fire way to glaze the bores over and have no ring seal.... which basically means a rebuild.

I'll be finishing up my 383 w/Lloyd's LE1 head/cam in a couple of weeks, could you tell me a little more specifically how you would "beat on it" so I get the rings seated? I put a lot of work in this engine, and I sure don't want to have all that go to waste because of not breaking it in right.

Thanks,
Chris

Yes i was wondering the same thing...well not exactly...my worry is that the rings won't seat and i will end up scoring the cylinder wall....

Re: head/engine questions...

Yes that's why I recomend it. Warm the car up and go beat on it. PERIOD. Don't be scared to play with these things, that's why you build them. Once you glaze over your cylinder walls one time you will always do this.

Bret

BTW where are you in Japan?

Put a few miles(10) on it to make sure of everything(OP,and sound). Then drive it like ya stole it. If ya want it to be fast,be fast with it.
