Head Bolt question...

Are the head bolts the same for an LT1 and gen 1 small block? There is a complete head bolt kit from GM performance parts that I really liked when I built a gen 1, and wanted to see if I could use it on an LT1.

Yeah they are the same in most respects. Some of the later LT1s, 96 & 97 I think, had TTY bolts, but you could still replace them with common SBC bolts.

I like the ARP 134-3601s, personally.

Re: Head Bolt question...

Keep in mind that EARLY Gen 1 head bolt sets WERE different. The inside outer bolts (2) are not the same length as the common Gen 1. The heads are actually machined differently thus the need for different bolt lengths.

This.

You must use head bolt washers with standard hardware, or use the flange head bolts such as felpro or ARP sell.

Re: Head Bolt question...

The 1994 LT1 has head bolts that look like the Gen 1 bolts, but have a captive washer, needed for the aluminum head. But the LT1 bolts even in that year are TTY and one use only. I would think the 93's are the same, but I haven't had one of them apart.
