HD timing chain--waterpump gear????

Ok I have a entire new waterpump driveshaft(complete with gear and bearing) and the HD timing chain set with the gear for the waterpump. Do I need to change the new gear off the driveshaft for the one in the HD set? Have read a few posts on this and couldnt find a concensus.
Couple of Questions:
Is the gear in the HD set different from the one included on the driveshaft?
Is the gear in the HD set hardened or matched to the set?

Thanks.
Rob

If this is the extreme duty LT4 set then water pump gear as well as cam and crank gears are billet steal. If you chose to run the stock gear it might wear out quickly. The shaft and bearing can be pressed out of the stock gear and used with the new one.
