having motor rebuilt to 383??

Iv come to the conclusion that this rebuild im having to do is alot harder then i expected. My 1995 is in the process of needing a rebuild. I want to go to a 383 but keep the budget down. I did a search on here and cant really find the answers im looking for. Hopefully everyone can help me out a bit. Im planning on using the 383 LT1 kit from summit as it is priced fairly decent. I know im gonna need a crank also for sure but im lost as to what else ill need to acoomplish this build. Im planning on carring over my CC305, stock heads with 1.6 rockers because i know i cant afford heads until some time next year. SO my question basically is. With the summit kit and new crank will stock intake and injectors all support the 383 im putting in? Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Re: having motor rebuilt to 383??

Make sure you have the entire rotating assembly balanced. You must reuse your stock balancer and they will need the flex plate/ flywheel. They will have to be zero balanced. I Paid two hundred to balance cause I needed extra mallory metal and that stuff isn't cheap !
Once you have finished your head work you'll surely want a larger throttle body.Stock intake will work fine but your injectors might be on the small side. SLP makes a 28.8 lb injector for $100 for a set of 8. Those along with an adjustable fuel regulator ,so you can jack the pressure a little higher to get more flow and a pcm retune should be ok.
My entire bottom end including balancing, parts and labor came to about 1250.And finally I'll be able to get mine assembled this month once the heads come back from Llyod Elliot.

Re: having motor rebuilt to 383??

here are couple things i found out from gettingmy motor done...

when u get ur stuff balanced, they need ur flywheel/flexplate and also the hub and the harm balancer and a crank pulley (if u have one) the stock injectors will probably be ok, but if ure going to keep the stock injectors, u might as well keep the stock crank... the stock crank can handle upto 550ish rwhp (do a search on that, i've asked that question)

cc305 would be a better cam to keep in the car with the stock heads if u want to use ur stock injectors as well...

i would however reccomend that you atleast get ARP bolts (studs would be better) for ur main cap for some extra strength... also ARP head bolts wouldnt be a bad idea eitehr

To get you rolling you need:

Crank
Rods
Pistons
Rings
Bearings
oil pump
timing chain
all gaskets
etc.

Re: having motor rebuilt to 383??

If my stock rods arent damaged are they ok to reuse on a 383. They only have 90000 miles on them. The car was shut down as soon as it lost the oil pressure so there isnt any major damage yet? As soon as i find a place to balance and bore out the block i should be set then. I plan on using the Summit Racing kit as it seems to be a good deal and alot of people are happy with it. Thanks for the info and keep it coming if you wouldnt mind.
