Have a Delteq? Using the wires that came with it? Read this.

I had my Delteq installed when my 385 was built...it ran fine for a few weeks, but ended up missing around 2500-3000 RPMs (probably more up top, but couldn't really tell). I had a few other issues with it as well (idle speed was all whacked out, cruising on the highway was rough, etc).

I ended up buying a set of Accel wires (Jegs #110-7010, intended for a BB Chevy) and installed them on Saturday. It made a world of difference...smoothed everything out, idle is back to where it should be, and it feels a hell of a lot stronger. The wires fit just fine...all of them were long enough (use the longest wires on the driver's side, shorter ones on the passenger) and they tucked well away from my Hooker longtubes, so I won't be burning any of them. If you're having issues with the stock Delteq wires, give these a shot.

EDIT: These wires will fit if you mounted your coil packs down under the fans...I don't know if they'll work with the valve cover mounted coil packs.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been running my delteq since march with no problems so far. But at least I'll have a place to start if I have similar problems.

Thats what I am experiencing right now tried everything but replacing them.....New Plugs , Got a pic of them installed????I am also supposed to be getting bigger screws for the plate I will do that when I move them to the front 3 holes...Think the wires will work if I move them to the front 3 holes instead fo the rear 3????

I had to go to the auto parts store and buy longer screws for the plate too. They were just a hair too short. Also, I dont think you can mount the plate on the first 3 holes because the spacing is different and the holes wont line up for the mounting bracket.

No matter who makes them (including me, which I did for my Delteq), I always check my spark plug wires with a good ohmmeter.
Resistive spark plug wires have so many ohms per foot, and you can check them with an ohmmeter by measuring from one end to the other.
Under no circumstances should there be infinite resistance from one end to the other.

I have found new wires that the ends were not crimped on right that caused problems.
I won't consider putting on a spark plug wire until it is checked -- easy to check and more difficult to remove and replace.

You can also build your own. I built a custom set with MSD parts.

This is what I had planned on doing originally, but the Accels fit nicely and saved me a ton of frustration (I have a short fuse when it comes to my car after all it's put me through the past five years).

Well I noted the part number you gave. I wish I had been able to find an off the shelf solution like you did-I get lazy searching for stuff. It was a paint piecing together my first set of wires, but now that I know what not to do I'm ok.

Like the other poster said-infinite resistance wires that aren't crimped right or broke. And/or arcing outside of the wire or boot due to torn insulation. Best way to find this is to run the car late a night in a pitch black garage and look for tiny blue arcs.

I'm assuming the wires that come with the kit are just low quality...my mechanic has installed three or four Delteq systems and has had to switch out the wires on a couple of those to get them to run right. My guess is that the heat from the headers gets to them and breaks them down. The Accels are much thicker and have a better jacket on them.

EDIT: The next time I'm under the car, I'll note which wires I used in place of the Delteq wires and post it up here. The Accels come numbered, so I'll list out where they should go (ex. #1 Delteq needs #5 Accel or whatever). Two of my wires could probably be swapped to fit better, but they work and I was too lazy to clip all the wire ties and run them again...I'll note which ones those were also.

Same problem here. With the delteq wires my car ran like crap. Swapped wires and it runs much better.
