Re: Have $1000 to waste what should I do?

I wonder what my stock stall is on my 97 Z-28 automatic?

And what stall would be best with a stock tranny?

Stock stalls are about 1800... anything less than a 2800 stall is really not going to do much. I can confirm that going from the stock stall to a 2800 stall (vigilante) shaved .5 off my quarter. Best mod for the dollar besides nitrous id say...

Send to me!!!

Seriously though, stall, shift kit and tranny cooler. A friend just got done doing all that to his 00 T/A and that things feels like it is on the bottle. Thats how much of a difference it made.

Are you talking about the car in your sig? If so, why are you asking about CAI, you already have one right?

I can't believe the number of people saying Nitrous and stall. Nitrous is only useful once in a while, and a stall can make the car a pain to drive every day.

A stall is great if you plan to go to the strip all the time, or street race every day. If you want the most for your money, and something that you will enjoy ALL THE TIME, get a new cam, 1.6 RR's and tune. You already have CAI, headers and exhaust, so you are set up well for a cam.

Do a stall after that.

you are crazy... a 2800-3200 stall is PERFECTLY driveable everyday. I drive mine all summer long in traffic and its fine. If you ask me a 2800-3200 stall is more streetable than a cam and new rr's. ESPECIALLY if you are sittin in traffic, a cammed car does not like stop and go. I would know... LOL

Buy some doritos and a Dr. Pepper. Then throw a Totinos Mexican style pizza in the oven.

To each his own. I respect your opinion, and stand by my own.

It all depends on what your ultimate goals for the car are. If you just want a decently fun but very streetable daily driver, then I'd look into nitrous and a tune. If you're looking into doing a cam anyways, then go ahead and get the converter, tranny cooler, and gears -- and maybe a tune if you've got the cash.

Be weary though, these 4L60Es are not bullet-proof. My went out at 64,000 miles. A complete decently hardcore rebuild was around $1700 plus the cost of the new converter.. you might want to just save yourself the hassle so you don't have the pull the tranny twice.

I am still running factory gears, but with my cammed car the 3000 stall isn't exactly the most friendly when sitting in traffic, but it isn't rediculous either. It definately doesn't idle/creep normally, and sometimes can be a bit moody... but that's the price you pay for the mods you choose to make to your daily driver.

So my final advice to you is before you spend a dime, decide what your ultimate goals for your car are, shoot if you're graduating highschool/college soon, just save the money and possibly look at something newer. It all comes down to what YOUR personal preference is, because it IS your car. Then once you do decide, use that search function... I promise you'll find what you're looking for.

Amen... hit the nail right on the head there. I personally love my cammed/stalled set-up (minus the traction and gear issues ), even though it is a bit moody in stop and go, i try to avoid it.

You need a tune bad then, my car drives fine in stop and go, the only noticable difference is the clutch is a little grabby and chattery when its hot out, but nothing bad at all.
