its a pretty good system, in a ****ing horrible place. absolutely ****ing horrible.

distributors cannot get wet, so where does gm put it? on the bottom of the damn motor.

The weep hole is actually directly over the Harmonic Balancer. I have a leaking waterpump (weep hole is completely open..) and the water runs directly on the harmonic and gets slung around. Not enough direct moisture to damage the opti.. especially since it does have seals.

It made it 94,000 miles.. cmon Most people dont have cars that make it to 200,000.. so think about it this way..effectively multiply those miles... If you keep the car to 188K you may have to replace another one... Other wise you will have changed it 1 time for the entire life of the vehicle.

Forgive me if I'm wrong though...I've never tinkered with a distributor other than an opti.
What these guys are leaving out is that with a cracked rotor cap..or if moisture makes its way into a Distributor it acts up just the same.. only difference is we have extra features and abilitys that the Opti provides us with.

Check out the Opti write up. Its not a bad system..and was necessary to pave way for the current DIS systems.

i do have to agree it is a good unit in a very bad place...i have issuses with the opti only because it sucks with my car apparently....perhaps i will give up and let someone else figure it out and sell my car because it seems so many people have them lasting so much longer..even though a lot seem to have the 95+ vented one..maybe someone is powerwashing the opti while i am sleeping....one thing is for sure....the thousands i saved to do cool things to my car and go on vacation is gone again and i am pissed.
