Has anyone welded the drivers side MAC shorty?

Has anyone welded the drivers side MAC shorty header and then been able to intall the steering shaft afterwards? If so was it a pain in the *** to install the head as on piece and how tough to get the steering shaft in and tight? I know this has been discussed before but I don't know if anyone actually did it. I tried searching.

Is your's leaking?

If not, then there is no reason to weld it. I just gooped on a good about of Copper RTV on the tube that slides in, and the inside of the slip tube. The key is getting that clamp good and tight. I actually broke the bolt I tightened it so hard the first time. You need a bunch of 3/8" extensions and a swivel joint on a 3/8" socket driver. If you angle the clamp right on the slip tube, you can get to the nut from the top of the engine with the extentions and the swivel. The trick is getting the head not to spin on the other side of the clamp as you are tightening the not from above.

Hope this helps.

Don't use the pos clamp provided. Go to the auto parts store and buy an exhaust clamp. (u bolt type thingee). Won't ever leak and you can remove it later if need be.

Hey did any of you have to remove the steering shaft to get the driver side in there? Mine seems to not go in and I'm afraid of messing up the coating. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Mine went in fine without removing the knuckle. I think I only needed to remove the rear two spark plugs. Put tape on the headers if you are worried about the coating. Then remove the tape after they are in.

My drivers side went in super easy... and fell out on it's own when I pulled the last bolt when I removed them... I don't see how you can be having a problem with it... Are you going in from the bottom? If not you should be.
