Harmonic Balancer pulled out

For some reason the harmonic balancer bolt came loose and let the pressed harmonic balancer loose. It wiggled its way out and tore up the inside of the balancer. It can now slide on and off the crank. Also the Crank has been all scraped up at the end. What can be done? Can I just buy a harmonic balancer that uses a woodrift key? I saw some for sale but they dont come with that key. If I can just do that what balancer would you guys recomend that is cheap and where can I get that key?

Thanks for your help

Also when I pulled out the harmonic balancer no oil came out. I also ran the car with the balancer off and no oil came out of that area. Is there suppost to be oil coming out of there?

oil wont come out unless you pull the whole hub off..

was it just the balancer (pulley) or was it the entire hub assembly (sounds like thats what you mean)

if it was the entire hub, oil would come out, but it wouldnt necessarily pour out

i wouldnt reccommend running the car without the belt drive attatched, as your alternator wont be charging

i cant really answer your question about the keyed hub, cause i havent had to deal with that, but im sure someone will chime in soon enough

yea i pulled out the hub and no oil came out not even when i ran the car. I am on my driveway where the car is tilted back. so i wonder if thats why no oil is coming out. I just pulled the valve cover off my intake manifold and got oil to spray out by reving the engine just a little. And any info the the keyed hub will be useful as well.

The timing cover doesn't get much oil running through it, as long as you have oil in the pan and psi on the gauge I would not worry about that.

Sounds like jsut a stock replacement hub/balancer will work for you. Grab one here or something.

Generally its just the belt driven blower guys who need to key their hubs. I have one on order from Thunderracing but its been backordered for over a month now... grr...

well good to know about the oil i was a little worried. I have no choice but to get the keyed ones because the crank has been really scraped up from the balancer scrapping groves into it. DO you think a stock one would work? i was thinking about buying a keyed hub from jegs and using that. the only problem is i dont know where to buy the key from since jegs hubs dont come with them.

I have 2 hubs that I will sell. One is a 97 hub that has not been keyed. The other is a 95 hub that has been keyed. PM me if your interested.

Hopefully your crank is not to bad off because you must have a press fit on the hub. The Ati balancers are keyed if you want to spend some cash.

You could just get some keystock from the hardware/parts store and cut it. Thats what I used on my timing chain and plan to use on my hub.

Yes, You can buy hardened keys from the hardware store. Just make sure you don't get the soft "shear pins" like used on lawnmowers.

I would buy the factory keys from the dealer, they are cheap and the right kind, the TC spocket will use a notched key if hub has no KW. Danny Mc

the factory does not make keys for that side of the crank i dont think. I tried to buy it actualy when i thought that i was suppost to have one because i dident look at the hub. I guess ill look into finding the key at a hardwear store like you guys said. Do the keyed balancers still need to be pressed on?

It seems like it would be better to just buy the professional product balancer pn 80000. I heard that they rubed on the opti in the past. Is that still true?

Seems like a regular SBC key would work for the hub.
