Harmonic Balancer Help!!
Harmonic Balancer Help!!
Ive performed a search on this, i have my balancer off and i was wondering if this goes on a certain way, what is the easiest way to install it, and if i have to worry about any timing issues w/ the balancer removal and install, Your help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Harmonic Balancer Help!!
The balancer should go back on with the same orientation that it came off... (assuming that the crankshaft hasn't been turned...) Hopefully you marked it or at least noted which direction the arrow on the balancer was pointing...
I guess that there are only 3 bolts holding it on so there are 3 potential rotations that it could be mounted... That being said, you have a 1 in 3 shot of getting it right if you're guessing...
Good luck,
Steve

Re: Harmonic Balancer Help!!
Specify whether you mean the balancer/pulley or the hub. You can't put the pulley on wrong. It can only go on one way.
The hub is not indexed with a key which allows it to go on in any position (but should be installed with the arrow correctly indexed to #1 or #6 TDC). It is supposed to be an interference fit. Sanding the hub would not be a good idea, IMO.

The balancer/pully can only go on one way. I agree that it wouldn't be a good idea to sand the hub so it goes on easier. The hub doesn't have a key and is only pressed on so sanding it will make it easier to come off and you definitely don't want that. The crank does have a keyway in it and you can get a keyed hub from Thunder Racing for like $85, that's of course only if you need it.
