harder....headers or cam?

What is harder to do, and/or takes more time...headers, or cam? say, the hotcam kit vs. longtubes?

Hotcam or any cam for that matter would be harder to do than headers in my opinion.

Harder...definetly the headers

Longer...Hotcam

The headers were a PITA to install having to squeze them in place and disconnect the passenger mount and tilt the motor.

The cam took a few days, but went smoothly.

It takes more knowledge to install a cam than headers. Cam will more than likely take longer and cost more.

I agree that cam takes longer, but is it harder?

or is it not as hard for the simple fact that you take hte whole engine apart to do it..?

I didn't have to tilt the engine to get my headers in. I think it depends on which ones you get (LTs anyway) Either way, make sure you got alot of tools so you don't have to go someplace else to get some.

ummm... STOP.... Your comparing to different skills entirely.
Installing headers is a pain in the butt. and does take forever. but with a couple pictures and a bit of advice my mom could probably install them. It's more or less grunt work.

Installing a cam on the other hand, can go..... moderately quick. If you know what you are doing. The difference is that you can't really guess your way through it (well at least i wouldn't recommend it).

A steady hand is necessary to avoid trashing the cam bearings and degreeing it is also a big pain in the ***.

My vote goes to the cam. The oil pan is a pain.

I dont know anyone that has installed a complete cam kit in a day. Not saying it hasnt been done but I dont know anyone. But headers on the other hand can be done in a few hours.

Ive done both, and have to say

headers=time consuming but easy

cam= very time consuming and very much a pain in the ****.

both of these mods require supporting mods. ie. 02 extenders, wraping the wires and/or relocating them, might as well replace plug wires/plugs w/headers right? need to replace the valve springs/pushrods/seals/maybe opti while your in there too. the list goes on and on. Id say headers should def. be done first. JMHO

Do em both at once, get heads while your at it. Nothing like learning by fire. Man it sucked putting back together.

thanks for the insight.
i just installed the new cam and am trying to get the new headers squeezed in there but still have to assemble the whole top of the engine.
i also say do them both at once.
it's better to take it hard once than twice, right?
