Hard warm starts
Hard warm starts
My car is having a hard problem starting, after the car has been ran...Doesn't really matter how long, it still does it...To get it to start, I usually have to give it 1/2-3/4 throttle, and then it'll take off...We did all the fuel checks you can think of, so we eliminated that theory...But if the motor/car are cold, like as of a morning, it'll start first crank...Any thoughts??
My car would do the same , start up fine but after being ran usally after a short drive to the corner store it would not start with out slamming the pedal down. then when started it ran like crap. anyways after thinking it was a bad opti/fuel pump, but both were brand new. anyways it ended up being a stupid 15 dollar coolent temp sensor and plug that goes on the waterpump. i was skeptical but after changing it out , the car ran perfect. i had talked to a local f body genoius, he said sometimes they go bad and tell the computer that the motor is cold throwing everything off when the car warms up.
Well my ECT went bad too, but it never had any trouble starting. The ECT will tell the PCM when to go into closed loop. If it thinks the engine is cold, then it will just run in open loop, just like when it is cold. The engine runs fine in open loop when its warmed up, just a little rich.
Sounds to me like it has something to do with closed loop. Could be an o2 sensor or MAF, or somehting of the sort. Dont go out and buy all those parts. You would be better off getting a link cable and reading all the sensors to see what is going on.
Try this, unplug your o2 sensor and let the car warm up. If it is still messed up after you start it, then its prolly not the ECT. (it wont go into closed loop w/o the o2 sensors).
It could also be the ICM, those get pesky sometimes when they get hot.
Then again the opti seems to be everyones scapegoat.
My bet is o2 sensor or ICM.
