Hard Start Only When Cool What Can It Be?
Well i have new plug wires/ plugs. Fuel pressure is good. Just had the module on the coil go out so i replaced it. Opti is 1 month old. Still have a hard start onlywhen its cool.
I bought my 93 formula like a month ago. Started fine when I looked at it, and was ok when I drove it home. But it got really cold, like single didgits, and it did the same thing. It would crank over fine, but just didn't want to go. After a few minutes it started. So I'd love to know what would cause this. But I'll never drive it when its this cold out, so its no big deal really.

When it's REALLY cold, it's going to be hard for the car to start. It's fairly natural, wouldn't you think? I wouldn't think much of it, because I know that if it get's to be in the - side of the thermometer, everything get's sluggish.
i'd check the coil, thats what mine was. look around the housing for any white looking areas where stress and heat have damaged the case. if it seems to do it when its damp out too rather than just really cold try swapping in another coil and see if it goes away. mine was arcing when it finally left me stranded. and was only when the car was cold but after i got it started it would run like a champ until i shut it off again. could be this, just my .02
the fuel pressure is good and yes i hear the pump before starting. Even if i cycle the key 3 times it takes 5-10 seconds to start. The fuel filter is new. Now im starting to think AFPR???? Ah yes good idea ill try CT sensor. I live in Miami its never cold here so thats never a problem.
If the cold start sensor is bad, the pcm won't richen the mixture and it can be hard to start when cold. A quick check is sometime when it is really cold, put a couple of tablespoons of gas in the intake manifold and if it starts right up, that is probably it.
I'd check plug wires.
Mine used to have hard starts in the cold. Usually only when I didn't wait for the fuel pump to send it's fuel after turning the ignition on. I even completely flooded the engine once, for a while, trying to get it to start. Usually if I waited, then tried starting, it would after a few seconds of cranking.
I changed the plug wires and plugs, and now it starts fine, even if I don't wait.
