Hard Start Idle Air Control Valve?

seeing how my car is acting up and i have no idea as to why....just replaced the battery and clutch switch but yea...i turn it to the on position around 3 times and then turn it over ... sometimes it starts right up...others it will sit at 500 RPM's till i give it gas and then reve up to 1500 RPM's and then slowly drop to 1K.....any ideas?

some people have introduced the idea of my idle air control valve. found a wells idle air control valve and Niehoff Ignition 21965 idle air control valve...they range from $55 to $66....

is this what i need? is there any way to test the old one? What kinda of work am i lookin into when i look at installin a new one...i've only done, my intake, shifter, and exhaust....none of them were all that bad...

Re: Hard Start Idle Air Control Valve?

i went ahead and removed the TB and then removed the IAC valve...whata pain in the a$$. My IAC is nearly pitch black. I plan on trying to clean it with some Deep Creep and if i can get the gunk off i plan on puting it back in, otherwise I'll have to purchase a new one. Also, when i pulled the tubes off the TB, none of them were leaking, but after playing with the IAC i noticed that hte bottom tube had been leaking out what I think is coolant. A good amount of it. Hopefully it didnt get into my opti. But yea it's 3:30 am so i guess I'll get some sleep and put everything back together tommorrow. Any pointers?

Yes, stop the leak, and make sure you clean your throttle body while you have it off, that will help with your idle problem as well. You should consider doing the Throttle Body Bypass while you have eveything off if it doesn't get too cold around where you live.

Re: Hard Start Idle Air Control Valve?

well i went ahead and bought a new IAC valve from autozone...got it in and got everything together and it fired up great. Throughout the day it fired up on the first try with no problems at all about 6 or 7 times. Now it's back to taking atleast 2 tries, but the RPM's aren't jumping up to 1500 anymore. Any suggestions?

Get a scanner on it, and watch how the PCM commands the IAC top open, in response to idle speed. Assuming the new IAC valve is still healthy, did you check the idle air passages in the TB while it was out, to make sure they were not plugged up?

i sprayed some deep creep down in the whole where the IAC drops into, but i didnt really stick anything inside of it to clean it out cuz i was afraid of a sensor being down in there. Is it safe to spray deep creep in there and then used a q-tip or something of that sort to clean it out?

Re: Hard Start Idle Air Control Valve?

The IAC passage starts at a little hole in the throttle body, between the blades, and goes down to the bottom passage in the coolant/IAC plate, then returns to a passage behind the TB. Eventually it comes out some very tiny holes in the inlet runners. The entire path in the throttle body may need to be cleaned out. Don't leave any liquid in there.

Re: Hard Start Idle Air Control Valve?

Is it coming from one of the hoses that should be either bypassed or connected to the throttle body on both the passanger and driver side?
