Had to use Green Coolant in emergency. Do I need to flush system?
Hey All,
While at my mom's vacant house my Orange antifreeze leaked out of the car because I was on a slanted hill.
The car ran hot. I was 7 miles from the nearest Autozone/Advance autostore.
Since I was near a local store, I had to use a 5 gallon bucket of the Green stuff (I think the namebrand was Peak).
I made it to an Advance store and bought the some original orange dexacool along with the type clamps that you screw with flathead to replace the tired/worn screeze type clamps that are on my waterpump now.
The Advance guy said I should flush my radiator because the 2 different coolants don't mix and that I would turn into sludge causing my radiator to possibly stop up.
Should I flush system or will it be OK?
Thanks
Tim

Hope you didn't put much in!!! The two coolants are not compatable at all. They react and cause a sludge that in severe cases can cost you a rebuild.
I would have your cooling system flushed by a shop as soon as possible. The equip they use is much more powerful than anything you can do.
Good luck.

If you flush it out completely, you can switch over to green... up to you. I run the green stuff personally since it's cheaper and because I have to run straight water at the track. So my coolant gets drained every year.
Thanks for the replies fellas.
My first instinct was to use water, but then I figured the water would dilute the orange coolant, reach its boiling point and cause even greater damage before I could make it to Advance. I figured some type of coolant would be better.
It will be next week before I can get it to a shop. I could flush it myself, but I don't have anyway of disposing of the old coolant properly.
Thanks again,
Tim

If you cant get it into a shop next week you might want to drain everything out of the cooling sys. Pull you block drains and everything then when you go to take it down there fill it up with water unless its your daily driver.
