Unhappy Guys whats wrong with my car? I'm about to cry

Ok, my starter has been slowly dyeing for awhile now. Last night my car would not start. Righ when you turn the key it would begin to turn over then stop completly, not turning over at all. Today i changed the starter %100 sure that was the problem. Wrong. It does the same thing. I am at a complete loss here. It drove home absolutly fine, then I was going to get something to eat but didn't start. I am beginning to hate this car. Any thoughts?

1. Test the alternator.
2. Check out the BIG battery cables. Check for corrosion on the wires, ground and positive. Check the little solenoid wire too.

Does it make a clicking sound when the starter stops?
Check grounding on it

I thought the alternator had nothing to do with the car starting? I had it tested a week or two ago, it was fine.

Have you COMPLETELY tried a different battery? Also, do you hear the relay clicking?

You're right, it doesn't. But maybe the alternator isn't fully charging your battery. Leading to poor cranking power.

I put my dads battery in it and it did the same thing. There is no clicking whatsoever, just the motor turns 1/4 of the way then stops. Nothing. No complete rotation, doesn't even have a chance to catch.

does it just lock up? or does it turn a 1/4 way & then you can hear the starter gear spin...maybe some chipped teeth off the flywheel/flexplate?

It locks up. Sounds like it engages, then locks up. I havent' noticed any misses or anything, and like I said, it ran fine on the way home. But those optis do suck.

Hmmmm, mine does this- (sometimes) get in the car to start it, put key in ignition, turn key to crank position and hear a click, but no turn of the motor. Back key out of ignition, repeat process, again click but no turn. The clicking is coming from under the hood. Where is the starter soleniod on these cars, I think that might be the problem.
