best way to screw up a TC

yep...you read correctly.

the reason i asked is because i wanna know if my tc needs to be replaced. the tranny overheated and the clutches were torn apart, and there was debris going through the TC...not to mention the heat.

so, is the tc dead? i'm getting another tranny, so i dont wanna put anything in there that will have debris in it.

oh yeah, both the tranny and the tc had 400 miles on them...the tranny is fried....yes, fried!

Or you can buy mine which is working perfectly (2nd gear chirps, no rev limiter hitting ever) for $550 complete.

If your tranny blew with that TC on it I definately wouldn't use it again whether it was still good or not due to the contaminated fluid. So the TC does need to be replaced.

yeah, you're right. i've only had the tc for a month, i'm just gonna send it back to JEG'S.

i went ahead, and bought a rebuilt tranny from a pro for $500. well, it was $750 and my old tranny, but he cut $250 off because i told him i'd do some computer work for him.

what would be a good excuse to tell JEG'S to get them to send me another one?

tell them you were having issues and took it to a shop and they said that the coverter blew up and sent stuff into the tranny destroying it. Tell them your not too terribly pissed but want a new converter. You were going to replace/rebuild the tranny soon but this just forced you to do it earlier than expected

well, i talked to them a little earlier, and they told me that they'd switch it for me....but i'm not sure if they'd switch it if my tranny's what caused the damage to the stall...even if it's a month old.

Best way to screw up a TC........ hmmmm, well take a stock rebuild TC with no furnace brazing or heavy duty bearings, and spray a 150 shot out of the hole on ET streets

Somewhat. I had a buddy sell me a TC that was his buddies. It is a Dacco 2200 lockup stall. As soon as we installed it, when I put it into gear I heard a roaring noise, but when I got moving it went away. It certainly stalled higher than the stock converter did. Felt marginally faster as well. As soon as I got to the track I realized that I had not gained anything, except for what I got from drag radials. Then I learned that the guy who had it before me sprayed it off the line and had pretty much f*cked the converter up. It was only $50, so I'm not pissed. Hell it went 7.80s in the other car it was in

Two morals to this story- do not buy parts that wear used, and also, if you want to spray a big shot off the line, get a heavy duty converter.
