Guys with SLP headers...

I'll be getting 96-97 shorties real cheap. They were shipped today, and when I get them I'm sending them out to be coated. I'm most likely going with a stainless works catless Y pipe, and I know the fitment isn't great, but that's what sawzalls are for

Anyways, how's the install on these? How is plug access? Any tips on the install? Sound clips anyone?

Put mine on when I rebuilt my motor. With the motor on the hoist I still had a difficult time getting them in. You will have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine just to get the stock manifold out. But all in all I like them.

Really? I've never seen that you have to jack the motor up to get the maniforld out. What caused you to have to do this? I'm curious because I have a '97 and will be taking the maifolds off this spring.

Cmr0z28,

Here are some links to header install sites. They aren't SLP's, but it may give you a idea of what to watch out for.

You wont have to jack up the motor to get the stock exhaust manifolds out.

You DON'T have to jack up the motor to remove the manifolds OR to install the headers.
The drivers side is a piece of cake.
The passenger side requires a little more effort and it's best to have someone help you.
Plug access is about the same. Maybe even slightly easier. The only difficult time I had during the install was getting the y-pipe to line up.

plug access with SLP d/c headers isn't too bad if you know how to get at them. I did my plugs back in Dec. when I put my Formula up on stands for the winter. The only thing I had to do was move the starter and remove the AIR fitting on the pass. side that screws into the fitting on the header, that's it. I didn't have to unbolt the exhaust at all. Most of all have the patience and the right tools to do the job.

here's a link to my plug install:

I have some other posts here re: the headers and how to install them, do a search under my username and you'll find them. Good luck!!!

Tony

forgot: had to pull the alt. too

My bad......Hey Fastbird and Slickblack.... how did you guys remove the manifolds?? From the top? Man, rebuilding the whole motor that gave me some of the most frustration. There was just no clearance to pull it out. I'm curious because if I go back and change to LT's later, I'd like to know.

thanks.

I pulled both manifolds from the bottom. Though the drivers side may come through the top.
