I'm going to have to go a static first, just because I've either got some valves too tight that's bleeding off cylinder pressure causing my backfire through the intake, or my opti is shot.
Valve lash isnt dependant on the cam, it varies with different lifters. Stock lifters require 1/4 turn past zero lash to as high as 3/4 past. Comp-R lifters usually run best at zero lash or 1/8 turn past.
Stock lifters are better to adjust while running, but the comp-r lifters make a little more noise and the "tighten until the noise goes away" method doesnt always work. I would go with comp specs and tighten them until straight up zero lash when the engine is cold and see how that works for you.
