I am lookin to do a cam this winter and i just listened to a sound clip of the CC306. This thing sounds bad and I am leaning toward maybe trying it out. How practical is this cam for a daily driver and what kind of power increases are people getting with stock heads and 1.6 rr's and a tune? Also what are the general prices for this cam and would the lt4 springs work good with it???? Any information is appreciated guys. Thanks alot, Dustin.

the cc306 is a great cam for a manual shift well tuned car. Can be driven daily, will most likely drop your mileage. Pretty much a top end cam. Power seems best above 3000 rpm, oh yeah did i mentioned a well tuned car. PCM wise that is.

If you want the sound record a sound clip and play it on your stereo REAL loud

 

I am not selecting a cam based on its sound. Hence why i made this post asking for some information on it right??? I was simply stating it sounded nice and I wanted some information on it. I am pretty much just looking around. I want a cam with a nice loping crakle sound but not TOO wild, something that I can still drive around with and take short trips without getting like 10 miles to the gallon. What do you guys recommend???

 

Im running on this cam, untuned...mileage isnt extremely horrible and it has great power compared to my old setup...Im currently daily driving it and unfortunately will be going thru the winter with it as well... It does have a nice powerband..but I have no trouble lighting the tires up on a launch with a small 2200 stall and 3:42s. Its not going to be pulling the best 1/4 times with this setup..however I dont think I will have troubles running a 12 something pass.

 

I haved used the cc306 in 3 different personal cars. For sure not a daily driver cam with an auto trans

 

What kind of price are the CC306's going for and where is the best place to get them. Would this cam go good with Comp Cams 1.6 rr's and lt4 springs??

 

PS the only way to pass emmisions with it is pay someone off

 

I did the "behive" LS1 springs per Comps advice. Call Comp they will tell you everything you need down to part numbers then do some shopping. Jegs or Summitt aint bad. I don't believe the LT4 springs with 1.6's with work with the 306

No that would be a horrible combo. The CC306 requires some good valve springs. The cc306 would be bigger than the LT4 springs could handle by itself let alone with 1.6's on top of that. As for the price why not look it up on anyone of the vendor's sites that are listed on this forum. Why should we do it for you.

 

Alright, first off from the looks of your signature you dont even have the cc306. Second, I beleive the name of the post says "Guys with cc306" I never asked anyone to look it up for me. I figure anyone who has this cam would remember where they got it and about how much they payed for it. Stop being a jerk.

 

ChevyTuddD - Dont worry about it..when I was trying to dig up info for my combo it was tricky to know what works/what doesnt and using the search button sometimes turns up a lot of mixed messages...

I have the exact springs I posted about..installed the springs myself. The LT4 cam is pretty small compared to the 306 and I belive the springs used with the lt4 are barely enough to handle that cam. You will need something that lifts to .600 like the ones I posted, or the other springs you will see posted about (Comp Cams has plenty of them...they just cost more than the ones I have.)

 

We don't have to have a cc306 to be able to answer questions about springs. All you have to do is look at how much lift the spring can take vs the lift on the cam. I almost went for the cc306 but after looking went for the 230/236. Its similiar in duration 230/236 vs 230/244 but the XE is more streetable thanks to its less advertised duration and steeper ramps on the cam lobes. Also people get tired of answering these same old questions. If you did a search on cc306 drivability you will find many posts talking about it. Do a search, go look for the info don't make us bring it to you all the time. As for the price just look at the vendors on this site. Thats what they are here for.

 

Alright then, next time you have a problem with your car and you ask someone on here for advice i hope they tell you to go look it up in a damn Haynes Manual. As for everyone else who has responded, thanks alot I really do appreciate those who do try and help others without complaining about it.
