i am just curious as to what everyone with an aftermarket camshafts'(on stock bottom end) oil presssure is. i have seen many people do big cams and it just destroy stock bottom ends.
my buddy has a 95 z28 with a 236/242 cam and his oil pressure is like 20 at idle and 35 under load
currently, after switching to 20w50 oil, i am around 45 PSI at idle and around 60-65 under load
.....oh yeah, that is with 120,000 miles too

Fully warmed up at idle I'm showing about 10psi. Full throttle at redline I'm getting around 50-55 psi. BTW I'm running mobil 1 5w30 currently, I usually run 10w30.
I really don't see any reason to switch to 20w50 oil, as you may be robbing a few hp by pumping something that thick. Not only that, but that much pressure is just not needed.

eh.. ive got a friend with 130k on stock engine, would it be worthwhile for him to put the 305 or 306 (with new lifters pushrods and rockers) his is a 94 manual z28
also i have oil psi in 30ish range using valvoline synthetic (this is at idle) though it doesn really go up any until about 5k, so it may just be gauge.. is this normal? though sometimes it does go to about 15psi once warmed up

That sounds pretty good. My oil pressure never went over 40, and I put in a big cam at 60K miles and spun a bearing in 7 months.

No change in oil pressure when I went from stock to a small cam at 60000miles and no change either when I switched to a big cam at 70000miles.
My oil pressure has always been kinda low because I use light oil. (Mobil 1 0W-40) I'm expecting to spin a bearing any day now

35 at hot idle, 45-55 driving at around 2 grand. Sometimes it will see almsot 75 psi when romping on it. This is using 10w40 also.
Putting in a thicker oil to bring up PSI is putting bandages on it. This means your clearances are spacing out, and your getting close to a rebuild. Won't kill the engine to run it like that, but just don't expect it to last forever

i have just seen too many people have spun bearings with big cams on high mileage engines. i dont mind the few lost hp. i will prolly go back down to 10w40, i just thought i would see the difference.
