Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
Quick question for ya guys with a 383 stroker set up. What is the best kit to buy for doing this conversion, cuz i am doin a 383 stroker this spring/summer and i am just tryin to find the best kit for it. Any suggestions or input is greatly appreciated.. Thanks GUYS!!!!
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
Without telling us the intended HP levels, whether or not you plan a major power adder, your budget, etc., there is no way anyone can answer your question intelligently.
You need to think through what your long range plans are, and then post this on "LT1 Engine Tech". That's where the vast majority of LT1 engine owners, with strokers will be posting.
I'll move your post from "Advanced Tech" to "LT1 Engine Tech" to assist you. But you need to add the information I suggested.

well my plan was to set the car up for drag racing only.. hopefully aiming for 400+ horsepower the only other major power adder i would be adding is nitrous. Also i would be upgrading the rearend to a moser 12 bolt so that it could handle the extra power between the engine, and the nitrous. I hope this helps somewhat
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
If you eventually add the moser 12 bolt , great but I would not be in to much of a hurry to upgrade the rear end with 400plus hp. I have had my 86 Camaro with the 10 bolt in the high 11s and the only thing it has is, a torsen posi unit(take off)from a 4th gen 98-up along with 28 spline axles. It has handled the hits without any problem . Do get a quality torque converter though.
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
If only 400HP is your goal you can get by with a cast iron setup, I would look at Combination Motorsports website and take a look at their rotating assembly packages. However if your going FI or spray then I would definately invest in the forged setup. I got mine from them for around $2300 which included pistons, rings, rods, crank and bearings. Don't forget about the machine work on the block such as boring the cylinders, decking the block, magnafluxed, hot tanked, line bored, etc. That ran me about $1200 including splaying the mains to a 4-bolt configuration, which I highly recommend for strength purposes, but not required. Then you have to consider labor costs if you're not going to do it yourself and the cost of a rebuild gasket set which isn't cheap. So far I have about $5000 into just the short block, gaskets and other crap alone. I say if you're going to do it, do it right the first time. I'm building my setup to handle about 18#'s of boost and shooting for 600RWHP. Hope this helps and remember this is just my opinion and what I did. Good luck, Rob.
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
Check on ebay. They have some nice eagle kits on there. Kit comes with forged crank, forged pistons and I beleive eagle H beam rods. It sells for around $900 and comes with clevite bearings, its a pretty good deal if u ask me. I also beleive it is advertised to support up to 700-800 hp so it would be good for u wanting to run nitrous.
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
Don't mean to sound like a dick but search on 'strokers', then post up what specific questions you might have. I went the 383 route myself and went with a Scat9000 crank, Scat 4340 forged I-beams, and some SRP forged pistons.
Depending on goals and budget will determine what you will buy. Like I said, search, read, and then ask more specific stuff

True that u get what u paid for. BUT the $900 kit off ebay is all Eagle parts. Last I knew Eagle made some pretty good products. It also comes computer balanced.

Build it once, in my opinion. You can get a forged kit from combonation motorsports for $1749 which is an eagle forged crank, forged rods, and forged SRP pistons. They can also swap out parts, etc... IE: if you want a -5cc piston as opposed to a -16cc piston or vise versa....I was originaly going to go with this kit, but i plan to boost and spray in the future, so i decided to build it once and go with a callies dragonslayer, callies compstar rods, custom JE forged pistons, all together with hellfire rings, that costs me $2285 or something, well worth it, only $500 more then the eagle forged setup. Call them up, tell them your short term and long term goals....like what was posted before, pay now or pay more later....Definitly would go with a 4 bolt main splayed conversion also..yea its alittle more $$ for machine work, caps are resonable but in the long run definitly worth it...
Re: Guys with 383 strokers!! Need help.
You don't need a splayed 4-bolt conversion. It's not worth it if they're not needed. The money would be much better spent in the heads and valvetrain.
My rotating assy cost me $982 from the original machine shop I went to.
