guys with 12 bolts inside please!!
i am planning on ordering my 12 bolt today. i know that alot of people said that the drive shaft has to be shortened 1/2 to 1 in. and since every car is different now one can tell me the exact length right? they said stock length will work but i don't really trust that answer. so i am going to order the rearend and install it then measure for the correct driveshaft length. but from moser in will take up to 1.5 weeks. i can't wait that long. so does any on know where i can get a drive shaft any faster for about the same price. they got and aluminum for 379 and steel for 279.
Stock driveshaft will "work" but it is too long. Use of a stock length shaft will place the slip yoke too close to the transmission. If you launch hard at the track or hit a big bump the yoke will butt up against the base of the tailshaft. At the least, this will limit the rear suspension travel and cause poor handling or wheelspin. If it hits hard enough it will damage the transmission.
You should replace the shaft. If you need a 12-bolt, you don't want an aluminum shaft anyway. It not as strong as a steel shaft, and the weight difference is small. If you want to keep your aluminum shaft and spend as little as possible, a good driveshaft shop can shorten your exisiting shaft.

I have used a number of shafts from Denny's and have always been satisfied. http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/index.html
