guttin the cat

i have a 94 Z28 and i was wondering if it would be better to gut the cat or just replace the cat with a piece of piping. If guttin the cat is a better decision then how do u gut one?? thanks

I gutted mine before switching to the exhaust I have now. I thought the hollow chamber gave a nice tone to the exhaust. To hollow it out just drop the y-pipe and use a long screw driver/pounding device and hollow away

Re: guttin the cat

1) remove y-pipe
2) take large pole in hand
3) jam large pole into cat repeatedly
4) shake out everything that falls out of cat
5) reinstall

5) start the car and rev it a few times to **** the neighbors off and blow the little bits of junk out that are still in there.
6) reinstall

fixed it

BTW, I used the handle that came with the factory jack to break everything in there up...

Re: guttin the cat

I had a gutted cat once. A few months ago I finally found a ball flange conector and had a piece of pipe welded on. A gutted cat sounds like crap! I hated the empty tin can sound.

You got to run a pipe through it.
