Ground Effects making my engine overheat...

I put the Wings West Custom ground effects on my car the other day, and now my engine runs a lot hotter. It's blocking a lot of air from the underside of the car. I put it all on like I was supposed to, even that flap that's supposed to grab air, and it still runs pretty hot. Is there anything I can do to make it run cooler?

Re-Program you ECM to make it run cooler.. Are you still on the stock programming? I would imagine you are...

Some ground effects can block air. Did yours come with a special larger air dam to compensate? Fix the source of your problem-lack of air flow.

yeah my car was doing the same thing
call up WINGS WEST and get them to send u a larger air dam
mine use to always run above 3/4 on the temp guage
now its under 1/4
big difference

Thanks a lot! heh, I'm gonna get the smallest thermostat I can find I think, and run a fan switch. If I leave the fan on all the time, it wouldn't uh... burn the fan up, would it?

And I'm gonna gut my cat too. That thing steams and smokes when I get down the road. It gets really hot.

Yes, that will be bad for your fan. The more you run it the closer it is to dying.

But, if you do want a fan switch for when it does get a little warm here is one, and its cheaper than the SLP kit.

I have the air dam. It's about 3 inches from the ground. It doesn't help.

You have the special larger Wings West air dam? Without that your car will most definitely overheat. With it the car will still run just a little warmer but won't overheat.

I would think you might have something else wrong if you already have the larger air dam. Even with stock parts (turn on temps, thermo, etc.) your car shouldn't actually overheat with the Wing West ground effects and Wings West air deflector. Look for another problem!

Okay! I found out that one of my fans aren't working! We put a tester to the wires, and there's no juice from them. We put the relay/fuse from the first fan in the secondary place, and it still isn't getting any juice. I think I'm gonna try to run a wire so both fans turn on at the same time, from the other one. Anybody have any suggestions on how to do this?

How did you test the power to the fan??? Unless you have a scanner, the fans just don't come on when you start the car. You know that only one comes on at one temperature and then the other comes on at a higher temperature. You can force the primary on by turning the AC on. You may or may not have another problem. I suggest you investigate the possibility of a problem first before you start micky mousing the wiring.

One other thing, I know this sounds bizarre but I have seen others put the air damn on backwards. How the hell they did it is beyond me You do have it pointing forward RIGHT?

I do have a problem. My car runs at 240 - 260 every time I drive it. When I sit still, it runs at about 200 - 210.

This led me to believe at first that it WAS the ground effects kit blocking neccessary air to the radiator. But as you all have told me, as two people from Wings West have told me, if they are put on right, then it shouldn't heat up too much. Yes I do have the bigger air dam, and yes I have everything put on correctly. I'm not THAT stupid to be able to put an air dam on backwards.

So now that I know that's not it, I went to checking other things, and replacing other things. I put a 160* Thermostat in it (yes, I put the gasket on it too, correctly), I checked the antifreeze, it's good, and it's not leaking (it was put in there about a month ago). I let my car heat up to 240+, and I got under the car and pulled the primary fan wires and put a circuit/voltage tester to them, and they are getting power. So I plugged it back in, and pulled the secondary fan wires. They are not getting power. I checked the relay box, and pulled both fuses/relays, and have found that 2 of the plugs on the primary are getting power, and 2 are grounded, since they are not getting power. So I checked the secondary, and got nothing. So that second relay is not getting any power whatsoever, which is why the wires don't show any voltage when I checked them.

Now, I do not see any reason why the second fan would not work if it could get power. This is why I want to splice the wires and get power to that second fan. Because obviously it's not turning on, which is one of possibly many reasons why my car is running this way.

When I get both fans working at the same time, and my car still overheats, then I'll take it to a mechanic and replace a ton of expensive parts and wiring. I've investigated it enough, so now I'm asking how to do this operation to my car. All I ask for is a little help, not arguments about everything I say. My job and social life is depending on this car, and I need it to run cooler than it is. Thanks for any help anyone can offer, but please do not argue back with me anymore. I can't sit here and argue all day, I need my car to run. Thanks again.
