Grinding noise? Clutch?

Has anyone ever had a grinding noise from the tranny when taking off in 1st gear? I replaced my clutch at about 65k because it was starting to slip. It was also making a grinding noise when ever i would start out in 1st gear only. When i put in the new clutch, the noise stopped. Now i just recently did a complete rebuild and when i put everything back together i noticed that i heard the noise again. It is a very annoying noise and you can feel it in the shifter ****. I replaced my pilot bearing when i did the rebuild. Do you think this is the clutch or what? Thanks

its common on f-bodies. Mine does it too. I tried to get a straight answer a while back and no one seemed to know, good luck though.

When I first got my Z I had the same problem. It turned out that the dumba$$ that had it before me forgot to put transmission fluid in it. I ended up spending about two grand on a new transmission. I'm not saying that its the same problem with yours but just an interesting story.

Hope you figure it out,

Jason

Could be all sorts of things. I never get a straight answer either. However a buddy of mine is pretty familliar with Borg Warner T-5 and T-56 tannys and he said there known to make all sorts of noises and have no real problems. You best just to leave them alone as long as the car drives. If it stops driving then worry about, dont worry about a noise it makes.

I just wanted to make it clear that i'm not saying to forget about the trans if it has serious grinding issues when ever you shift, I'm jsut saying if its a simple noise dont worry about. Grinding you speak of sounds like syncros for 1st gear starting to crap out.

I don't think anyone really knows why, but every T56 I've owned has made that sort of low frequency, chattering, dieseling sound. No biggy

TTT, sometimes i also get that noise if i ease off the clutch an push it into first a lil further it dont make that noise, sometimes reverse does it too, as for the chattering noises....every t-56 has its lovely array of musical notes....wouldnt be a t-56 without them =)

I have heard that it is the throwout bearing. Some aftermarket clutches don't make the noise. I was told not to worry about it because it's 'cosmetic' and doesn't wear out before the life of the clutch. I have heard it on many fbodys, even my cousins 02 vette does it!
