Great fender roller...
Great fender roller...
I can't believe it, but I discovered a great tool for rolling fenders.
After cutting slots in the inner fender lip about 1" apart with a sawzall, I tried using a variety of methods to bend up the metal- hammer, pliers, vicegrips, etc. Guess what worked like a charm?
---- A bottle opener ----
You know, the super cheap 3" bottle openers with one rounded end and one pointed end for putting cut openings in cans?
Well, the pointed end worked really well for grabbing the lip and letting me pry up and bend the lip in. Word of caution, though. Use gloves. If the opener slips (and it will...) the gloves will keep you from ripping your hand on the next fender lip edge.
The really cool thing is that the opener is so short that you can actually do this job without removing your wheels/tires. Once you get the bend going, a pair of pliers with a piece of wood to protect the paint can be used to finish the roll as much as you desire. You can bend it all the way flush with the inside of the fender if you wish.
Just thought I'd share... TJ
