I mean, if you still have to use the optispark module, and that is what goes bad....................................duh???????? ???

I am sure it is a much better system for making spark, but, that much more dependable? If so, this might tell me something........hmmm.....

70-75% of the Opti failures relate to the cap and rotor. The optical sensor is fairly reliable. Removing the high voltage functions from the case eliminates the problem of ozone generation, and helps reduce the rust that causes blinding of the sensor.

I have often thought the same thing. My factory opti died because of the sensor, so I didn't care about delteq etc. But every problem since has been cap/rotor related, so I am starting to consider it.

I've been running for 6 years on only the optical sensor (not the LTCC, but similar in concept).... no problems. Buddy of mine had a similar system installed in his 30th SS convertible in 1998, and eventually made 1,125HP on an LT1 with it, revving to 8,000rpm.

The LS1 coils are fairly inexpensive in a junk yard... remember they were used in many of the GM trucks as well.

My 94 is still running the OEM Opti that just two years ago would barely run at all. After installing the Delteq all problems went away and have stayed away. I'm getting ready to install a Delteq on the wife's vert as well.

Right on point with what Fred said, when I tore apart the Opti on the 96 vert many of the holes were cloged with rust particles. Cleaned it up and it instantly ran better even with a crapy cap.

Just to be clear, for me, what holes are we talking about, the little disk or the vacume tube holes? thanks

Almost 2 years here using the delteq and no problems. It does seem the optical portion is more reliable but you never know, when my opti first went out the cap was fine, the optical portion went bad.
